Earl Houston Sloat, Jr., 92, of Evansville, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Deaconess Hospital. Earl was born January 12, 1925, in Evansville the son of the late Earl Sr. And Mildred (Cain) Sloat Bryant. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a submariner, during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and was active in the Naval Reserve for 12 years. Earl was a lifetime member of VFW Post #1114 and of DAV James B. Greshman #7. He retired in 1998 from American National Can after 28 years in machine set up. Prior to that Earl worked for Chrysler Corporation and Servel Inc. He also served as a reserve deputy sheriff in Vanderburgh County for 16 years. Earl had attended Potter’s Wheel Ministry. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years of Evansville, two daughters, of Evansville; two brothers; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Sloat; and sisters, Edna Sloat and Mary Lou Whitney. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2017, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue., Evansville with Pastor Mike Ballard officiating. Entombment will be in ParkLawn Mausoleum where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will render full military rites. Friends may visit from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
