We assume that Johannes Olai Lillenas died of TB shortly after arriving in Plain Twp, Renville County, ND. He was born in Norway. His father left his mother and brothers Paul and Haldor in Fitjar when he went to the United States. He ended up first in Colton, Minnehaha County, SD where after a year he had built a house and had money to have his wife and family to meet him in South Dakota.. Johannes' sister was born in 1888 when they lived in South Dakota. Approximately 1889 , the family moved to Astoria, OR near his father's brother, Andrew lived. Johannes' brother, George Martin was born in Astoria in 1896. In about 1900, the family moved to Roseville Twp, Kandiyohi County, MN where Johannes and his brother, Haldor, taught Sunday School at Hawick, MN near their home. His mother, Anna Marie, died of TB on 3 May, 1901, and was buried in Nordland Lutheran Cemetery in Irving Twp, S. of Roseville Twp. Haldor, his brother, had moved to Oregon, but it is assumed t hat his father, Ole P. Lillenas, moved Katrina and George Martin to a homestead in Plain Twp, Renville County, ND near his older brother, Paul. His brother, Haldor, wrote in his autobiography, that Johannes had walked painfully to the train to see his brother off and had problems walking that distance because of his disease. Haldor indicated that his brother had the same disease as his mother (TB) and that the family had to sleep in a railroad car because the local hotel was filled. It is ASSUMED that Johannes Olai was buried in Nazareth Cemetery in a plot labeled Ole Lillenas (but his father was buried many years later in Hillside Cemetery, Mpls, Hennepin Co.
