Services for Edward J. Beech, 85, of Claridon Township, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., state Route 44, 500 feet south of Route 6 in Chardon Village.
Mr. Beech died April 20, 2001, at his home.
Born Nov. 16, 1915, in Hambden Township, he was a lifelong Geauga County resident.
He enjoyed tractors, especially his Farmall HOS4. He enjoyed camping and traveled to the West several times.
Mr. Beech was an auto and equipment mechanic, retiring in 1981 from Sheet Metal Products in Euclid. He was also a bus driver for Hambden Schools, served as a deputy sheriff for the Geauga County Sheriff's Department during the 1940s and ran the old sugar house in the Bass Lake community (Route 44 and Woodiebrook Road) for many years.
Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Arlene (Wise), whom he married April 20, 1940, in Hiram; sons, David J. (Barbara) Beech of Munson Township, Kenneth E. (Bettykay) Beech of Hambden Township and Walter L. (Gayla) Beech of Claridon Township; brother, Herbert Beech of Claridon Township; sisters, Lucy Clark of Chardon Village and Bessie Schwindl of Zephyr Hills, Fla; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
His parents, Frank and Mary (Hathaway) Beech; and brother, Robert Beech; are deceased.
Friends may call 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Pastor Ray Mullet, chaplain for Hospice of Care Corp., in Chardon Village, will officiate at services. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Munson Township.
