Vernon Darrell Cotney, 73, died Monday, April 26, 2004.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Metzger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery.

Mr. Cotney was born in Martha, Okla., on July 16, 1930. He married Mary Lou Garoutte in Stratford on June 21, 1951. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a past member of Stratford Masonic Lodge. He served in the Army in the late 1940s. He farmed and operated C&C Texaco Products for 25 years. He loved baseball, golf, tennis, fishing and dancing.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kim Loerwald and husband, Donnie, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Kay Cotney and friend, Nelson Williams, of Amarillo; a son, Kevin Yale Cotney and wife, Brenda, of Amarillo; a sister, Anna Mae Norris of Wichita, Kan.; a granddaughter, Erica Jordan Loerwald of Albuquerque; and a grandson, Dax Ryan Loerwald of Albuquerque.

The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1289, Stratford, TX 79084; Odyssey Health Care, 1000 S. Jefferson St., Amarillo, TX 79101; or a favorite charity.
