Private First Class Ray Palmer Fairchild, at the age of 22 years, passed away on November 27, 1950 from a wound received in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir near Yudam-ni, North Korea. Ray was a member of Company D, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. In 1954, the United Nations, the North Korean government, and the Chinese People's Volunteer Forces exchanged the remains of war dead during Operation Glory. It was not until July 29, 2019 Private First Class Ray Palmer Fairchild's remains were positively identified by the, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA).

Ray is survived by one brother, John E. Fairchild of Portsmouth, Ohio.
Ray was a member of the Salyersville First Baptist Church and is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

Gravesite Details
There is a memorial cenotaph placed in honor of Mr. Fairchild, whose body was unaccounted for after the Korean War. It was the wish of his mother that a veterans memorial marker be placed in their family cemetery in honor of her son Ray.
