Hazel was the was the wife of film director Willis O'Brien. They married in 1925 and during the filming of "Son of Kong" in 1933, their two sons visited the set and a few weeks later, Hazel shot and killed the two boys and then turned the gun on herself. She died later in a prison hospital.
