John Frederick MacGregor, 51, of 1755 Scenic View Road, died Monday, Jan. 13, 1997, at the VA Medical Center, Fort Harrison after an extended illness.

He was born May 15, 1945, to John and Harriet MacGregor in Los Angeles, Calif. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1963, and discharged in Nov. 1965. He was stationed at Treasure Island, San Francisco, Calif. John worked at the Spectro-Lab in Van Nuys, Calif. for 10 years. He built solar panels for satellites. One of his satellites was put on the moon when man made his first landing there.

On January 26, 1980, John was married to Mary Steinmetz at Canoga Park, Calif. They lived in California until May of 1980 when they moved to Helena, which was Mary's home town.

John was employed by Hirst RV before his illness. He loved to camp, fish and do backpack hiking, and he loved the mountains. He was an avid gardener before his illness.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Helena; his mother, Harriet MacGregor of North Hollywood, Calif.; a sister, Jean Moore and her husband, Aubrey also of North Hollywood; stepson, Bob Flint and his wife, Suzanne and their two sons, Danny and Tyler of Helena; a stepdaughter, Rene Flint of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Chapel services will be Monday, Jan. 20, 1997, at 2 p.m. at Hagler-Anderson Chapel with Rev. Dwayne Thompson of the South Hills Baptist Fellowship officiating. Cremation has taken place at Sunset Memorial Gardens Crematory.
