U.S. Congressman. He studied law, graduated from Harvard Law School, was admitted to the bar in 1850 and commenced practice in Exeter, New Hampshire. He was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, (1851-52). Moving to Brunswick, Maine, he continued the practice of law and was a member of the Maine House of Representatives, (1854-55). In 1857, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he still was active in political issues and worked for local public improvements.
