Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia for Gloria Abernathy, 87 of Columbia, who passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Forrest General Hospital. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Bro. Tim Morrison will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Hathorn Funeral Home.
Born in Marion County, Gloria married Bill on July 1, 1951, while he was serving in the United States Army. They worked and raised their children in Houma, Louisiana. After retirement in 1984, they moved back to Marion County. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home with friends. She had a deep love for God, family, and friends. She was a faithful member of East Columbia Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, James Ottis & Arline Tolar; her Husband, George William "Bill" Abernathy; one Brother, James "Tot" Tolar; and one Sister, Dorothy Jean "Jeannie" Sistrunk.
She is survived by her Daughter, Kamala Abernathy, of Columbia; her Son, James Richard Abernathy (Polly), of Lakeland, Florida; two Grandchildren, Allison N. Abernathy, Ashton R. Abernathy, both of Lakeland, Florida; one Niece, Jennifer A. Pierce (Ben), of Hattiesburg; one Nephew, John W. Adcock, of Hattiesburg; and one Sister-in-law, Janet A. Adcock, of Hattiesburg.
Pallbearers will be John Adcock, Jason Goar, Ben Pierce, John McElroy, Mike Monroe, and Ronnie Shivers.
