DOCTOR FEARED DROWNED
An air and water search for a St James-Assiniboia doctor who has been missing and presumed drowned on Cross Lake since Saturday, has failed to turn up any sigh of the doctor.
A spokesman for Winnipeg RCMP said Dr William A Gorrie, of 203 Oakdean Boulevard was boating on Cross Lake with his family Saturday at about 1:30 p.m. when the boat encountered difficulties because of winds and high waves.
An RCMP patrol boat from Grand Rapids was in the vicinity of the Gorrie boat and took Dr Gorrie’s wife and two children off the boat.
The doctor stayed on his boat to try and bring it back to shore through the seven-to-eight foot waves and 25 to 30 mile-an-hour winds on the lake at the time.
The RCMP boat headed into shore with the Gorrie boat following, but when the Gorrie boat could no longer be seen the RCMP turned back and searched for Gorrie.
