JOHN H. ROBERTSON Sr., 1832 - 1869

John H. "Jackson" Robertson Sr., ....from what little documented evidence I can gather on his family, he was the son of (...?) and (...?) Robertson and was born in the year 1832 in Clay County, Kentucky. He died on March 27, 1869 at the age of 37, in the Payson or Seehorn Township area of Adams County, Illinois or perhaps across the county line near Kinderhook in Pike County. His death was reported to have been due to complication of the injuries he received in the line of duty during the Civil War. So far I have been unable to obtain any further information about his death or where he was buried, as there is no death certificate on file for him in the records of the Adams County Bureau of Vital Statistics located in the County Court House at Quincy, Illinois. Due to the fact that he died in the Payson Township area of Illinois, (one entry of his death says he died in near by Seehorn) it would be a fair assumption to suggest that he may have been laid to rest in the "Old Payson Cemetery" but more likely than not, he is buried in the cemetery known only as the Old Journey Grave Yard. This old cemetery is located just south of the small town of Seehorn on route 57, it is high up on the bluffs above the Mississippi River and very hard to reach, it has been abandoned for years and most of the grave markers have fallen over, been destroyed or removed. As to his families migration from Kentucky, I have no idea as to when they arrived in Illinois but I assume he and his family moved from Clay County, Kentucky to the Fall Creek Township, area of Adams County, Illinois or the Kinderhook area in Pike County sometime in the mid 1830's to early 1840's. According to the Adams County, Illinois marriage records Index, John H. Robertson and Nancy Jane Wasson were married by a Justice of the Peace, identified as Albert Landrum on Thursday, the 8th day of July in the year 1850 at Payson, in Adams County, Illinois, I have in my possession a certified copy of this Marriage License...
