Swab (Part-Time Swab, AKC Registration Number RA967755) Barzelogna was a Scottish Terrier given by Denise Barzelogna to her husband, Richard Barzelogna, for Christmas. He had a fiery, very stubborn personality and was very loved. During Autumn 1985, he escaped from Robert Barzelogna's yard in Bunnell, Florida, and was struck by an automobile on County Road 305. The driver notified the Family that Swab had been struck ( a blessing because Swab would have died if she had left him where he was struck) and he was rushed to an Animal Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Vet tried his best to talk Richard Barzelogna into euthanizing Swab due to a shattered left hip and broken left hind leg. Richard adamantly stated, "Save him." Swab was subjected to extensive surgery to correct his fractures and internal bleeding and survived. In the weeks that followed his surgery, he had to be taken outside and forced to walk, which caused him significant pain, and he grew to hate Richard Barzelogna because he associated the pain with him. Swab subsequently adopted Robert Barzelogna as his master and went anywhere Dad decided to go. He seldom had much use for any one else. The first time Swab met Richard's fiancee', Susan Mutter, she tried to pet him, saying, "He's so beautiful! Dogs love me," and was absolutely chagrined when Swab bared his teeth and growled menacingly at her. He did grow to tolerate her and was quite friendly to her when she had food or he was held for grooming. Swab hated dog groomers and was always a "problem child" during his visits to the groomer. Swab was also very fond of Robert's wife, Sunny Barzelogna, and sought her out if he was feeling poorly or needed food or water. He sired one son, Scotty Mac Barzelogna (Suzie's Scottish MacAttack, AKC Registration Number RB294108) from Lemieux's Classy Lassy (AKC Registration Number RB014800) and Swab and his son became quite close. In Autumn 1991, Swab was diagnosed with liver cancer. He grew frail and the morning that he passed away, he sought out Mom (Sunny Barzelogna), climbed into her lab and passed away there as she sat on her bed. The Family, especially Dad, was instantly devastated by Swab's passing and Dad never owned another dog again.
