George was the son of George B. Pearson and Norma I. Pearson of Towanda Pennsylvania. Graduating from St Agnes High School and Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and on April 17, 1964 he received a commission as an Officer in the US Army Reserve at Fort Benning Georgia. 1Lt Pearson arrived for duty in Vietnam on February 1, 1966 where he was assigned to and served with B Company, 2d Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, USARV.

On September 17, 1966 the Company B,command post, located on Hill 86 near the village of Tuy An in Phu Yen Province, was attacked and overrun by an overwhelming superior enemy force. The attack, which took place in a driving rain storm, was launched at 0030 hours and with such force, the command post defenses quickly collapsed. The enemy force was estimated at over 100 men consisting of NVA regulars, supported by local main force VC. During the battle eleven troopers were killed in action, one of the casualties was 1stLt Pearson who was killed by the enemy gunshot wounds he sustained.
