DENNIS DOYLE MURPHY, 75, of Port Orchard, WA, died peacefully in his home on January 15, 2018, after a heroic battle with lung cancer. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on October 5, 1942, to Margaret Mary (Sinnett) Murphy and Francis Eugene Murphy, the youngest of six children. After his mother died when he was six months old, he was raised by his UNCLE RAYMOND SINNETT (Memorial #90524090) and AUNT MATILDA (WOLFE) SINNETT (Memorial #90558761) in Gilmore City, IA.

Dennis graduated from Iowa State University in 1966 with a BS in Forestry. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for 34 years: 20 years in southeast Alaska (living in Juneau and Petersburg), 4 years in Oregon (living in Gresham and Prineville), and 10 years in the Washington, DC, headquarters (living in Montclair, VA). In the early years of his career, he conducted Forest Inventory all over the state of Alaska. After retiring, he worked 10 years for American Airlines at Dulles Airport in Virginia.

Dennis met his wife Constance Ann (Howard) in Juneau, AK, in 1966, and they were married in Douglas, AK, on October 4, 1968. They have three sons: Michael James Murphy (wife Geneve Allison, sons Daniel and Benjamin) of Melrose, MA; Jacob Paul Murphy (wife Lisa (van Hoboken) Murphy, son Declan) of Port Orchard, WA; Matthew Joseph Murphy (wife Anna (Wolleck) Murphy, sons Liam, Callum, Colton, and Nolan of Anchorage, AK.

In addition to his parents and uncle and aunt, Dennis was preceded in death by four Murphy siblings and six Sinnett cousins. He is survived by his sister Sharon (Murphy) Callahan of Dallas, TX.

Dennis was an avid golfer, frequenting the McCormick Woods course in his neighborhood. He was a true outdoorsman, spending much of his time in Alaska boating, hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. Cycling became a hobby later in life. One of Dennis’ lifelong passions was driving and road trips. He took excellent care of his automobiles. In his lifetime he coaxed over 200,000 miles out of four Volkswagens, a Honda, and three Toyotas. He completed over a dozen cross-country road trips, several going as far as Alaska and back to Virginia.
