Rachel Rebecca Woodson Guthrie, 78, of Roanoke, after a courageous battle with cancer, went to be with her Lord and Savior and loved ones, who have passed before on Tuesday, April 24, 2007. Born in Roanoke, September 16, 1928, she was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Mamie Woodson; brothers and sisters, Roberta Garst, Rennie Woodson, Andrew Woodson, Carl Woodson and Dorothy Jean Hartman and sisters-in-law, Zelda Woodson and Mary Ellen Guthrie. She was a life-long member of Nineth Street Church of the Brethren. Rachel's life was a celebration of her faith, family and friends. She worked for several years at C. W. Woolworth. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of fifty-nine years, Frank Guthrie; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Rick Helton, Becky and Bobby Dennis and Alice and Randy Jenkins; grandsons, granddaughters and their spouses, Amy and Jamie Hurt, Brent Helton, Matthew Dennis, Courtney and Bert Jones, Renee and Aron Collogan, Mark Dennis, Andrea and Josh DeMoss, Melissa Jenkins and James Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Madeline Hurt, Hannah and Ian Dennis, Luke, Adam and Samuel Jones and Sara Collogan; brothers, sisters, and their spouses, Joseph Woodson, Fred and Lois Woodson, Joyce and Lester Reed, Bobby Pete Woodson, Shirley and Marvin Foster, Rosemary and Tom Palmer and Janice and Ronnie Sink; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Janie Hancock, Tommy Hartman, Charles Owen Guthrie and Bobby and Dot Guthrie; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends special thanks to the nurses and doctors of the Blue Ridge Cancer Care and the Medi Home Health and Hospice, who gave such loving care. Also, the family appreciates Pastor Patrick Starkey, Deacon Steve Walker, Pastor Albin Crutchfield and Carlton Wright for their caring ministries. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at Nineth Street Church of the Brethren. Pastor Patrick Starkey will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday April 25, 2007 at Oakey's North Chapel, 362-1237.
