ALFREDA B. BURRIS LEGG, 89, of Duncan, died Wednesday, April 25, 2007, in Duncan.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. John McGarey officiating.
She was born May 11, 1917, in Temple, one of six children, to Alfred Henry and Amanda Cansler Burris. All six children were imbued with a great love of education and they all were college graduates. And, like their father, all six were teachers at some time or other.
She earned a master's degree in English literature. She was a professor of English literature at the University of South Alabama for 18 years, retiring in 1979.
She married Theodore G. "Ted" Legg on Oct. 5, 1985, in Duncan.
She was an avid gardener, enjoyed traveling, and was a gemstone lover.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ted of the home; a daughter, Cathy Clary and Larry Vanek of Tulsa; a son, Donald Clary and Janice Wu of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; a sister, Grace Maines of Bartlesville; a granddaughter, Lisa Diane VanDusen of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Connor Michael and Cade Allen VanDusen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edward Burris and George Burris; and two sisters, Clara Mae Evanhoe and Crystal Burris.
