ELBERT HOWARD MAYFIELD, 1912 - 1983

Elbert Howard Mayfield, also known as "Tee Hop" was born on Thursday May 2, 1912 in Marceline, Adams County, Illinois and died in September of 1983 at his home in California. He was the son of Uriah Lamonte and Arlena "Lena" Powell Mayfield, and the brother of my mother, Wilma Olive Mayfield Robertson.

I was told by my mother that the way my uncle Elbert Howard got the nickname "Tee Hop" was, as a small child, instead of saying the rabbit went "Hoppity, Hoppity", he would say the rabbit went "Tee Hop", Tee Hop". He served in the Navy with the "Sea Bees" in Bermuda during WWII, then moved to California where he spent the rest of his life. He Married Estel Rowsey and was later divorced.
