Paul Gulas

Paul Gulas was born September 20, 1948 in Coral Gables, Florida to Paul Gulas Sr. and Elizabeth (Rigney) Gulas. He enlisted in the Army in 1967 and served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a Sargent, with an honorable discharge in 1969. Paul was employed with the United Postal Service and later with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. He met the love of his life in Reno and married Susan Schweitzer (Gulas) in 1996.

Paul joined the Nevada Astronomical Society in Reno and went to Peru in 1994 to view his first of eight total solar eclipses. He also used the GI Bill to attend Truckee Meadows Community college, graduating in 1995 with an Associate of Applied Science, Computer Technology degree. He loved to fish in Nevada and throughout the world. Paul always respected his fellow veterans and volunteered with several service organizations. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Vietnam Veterans of American (VVA), and American Veterans (Am Vets). Paul and Susan restored a 1943 Navy Firetruck and joined the antique firetruck club in Reno, known as, Firematic Collectors of Northern Nevada. Paul owes some of his determination for living life to the Friends of Bill W.

Paul is survived by his wife Susan, sister Faith Knowles, sister Isabel Sakal, brother Mike Gulas and many nieces and nephews. Paul did not wish to have any funeral services. Cremation is under the direction of the Cremation Society of Nevada. Donations in his memory can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Reno Chapter 1, P O Box 994, Reno, NV 89504-0994 or the American Cancer Society, P O Box 19110, Las Vegas, NV 89132.

Paul did not let cancer control him, he controlled the cancer for 28 years. He will be missed by his family and many friends he made over his lifetime.
