Johann George Stark, 1797 - 1870

Johann G. Stark, (known to everyone as "George" son of Johann and (...?) Stark was born on Sunday, June 13, 1797 in Bavaria, Germany and died in 1870 at his home near Palmyra, in Marion County, Missouri. He was 1st married to Anna Maria Walther (sometimes recorded as Mary Walder, born in Neuhaus, Germany in 1801) daughter of Johann and (...?) Waltherin/Walther (or Walder) in Morhendorf, Germany on August 12, 1821. Anna Maria died in 1835 in Klein Siebach, Bavaria, Germany. He 2nd married Magdelena "Martha" Gugel in Klein Siebach, Bavaria, Germany about the year 1838. All of his children were born in Klein Siebach, Bavaria.
In the year 1845, accompanied by his 2nd wife and seven of his children he sailed for America on the passenger ship "Olbers", from the Port of Bremen, Germany and landed at the Port of New Orleans, Louisiana on his 47th birth day, June 13, 1845. He and his family then traveled up the Mississippi River and settled in Liberty Township near Palmyra, in Marion County, Missouri, where Mr. Stark had purchased farm land located approximately 2 and one half miles east of Palmyra. He farmed there until his death in 1870 after which time his oldest son, John George Stark and his wife, Martha A. Tennell, the daughter of Benjamin and Jane Stoga Tennell, took possession of the land and continued to farm there until his death in 1901.

The following is from a Passenger list of 1847 that also landed at the Port of New Orleans that originated in Germany from the Port of Havre. I have listed it here because of the simularity of names of individuals of the Stark family who were passengers. Because of that information and their ages, I thought they may be related to the family of the Johann George Stark that arrived in 1845, perhaps even the family of a younger brother and also the possibility that this info may be of some help to others visiting Find A Grave.Com
