Samuel was the son of Thomas S. Swearingen & Mary Polly Ashcraft. On September 1,1897, in Palo Pinto County, Texas , he married Laura Ellen Lane, daughter of Alfred Lane and Elizabeth Goodnight, sister of Charles Goodnight. They had three daughters, Cora Mae, Lillie Lena, and Annie Clare.

Samuel Swearingen (my great-great grandfather) was born 10 Dec 1851 in Missouri. He was the son of Thomas S. Swearingen and his wife Mary "Polly" (Ashcraft) Swearingen. On 1 Sep 1875 in Palo Pinto County, Texas he married Laura Ellen Lane [daughter of Alfred Lane and Elizabeth Goodnight (sister of Charles Goodnight) Lane]. They had three beautiful daughters: Cora Mae Swearingen, Lillie Lena Swearingen and Annie Clare Swearingen.

On 9 Oct 1886 Samuel Swearingen, a capenter and farmer lost his life due to a logging accident when peritoritis complicated his internal injuries from a tree falling on him. When the Swearingen family in Missouri learned of their son's death, they sent a younger son, Robert to see to the condition of the young family. Samuel's brother, Robert T. Swearingen then married Samuel's widow, Laura on 23 Feb 1887 in Parker County, Texas.
