Ambrose Cornelius Rominger was the second of five known children of Solomon Rominger (1814-1857) and Rachel Jane (went by Jane) Jones Rominger (1821-1896). After Solomon died Jane remarried to Christian P. Ernest (1802-1884) in 1859 and had at least two known additional children. Ambrose was born and raised in the vincinity of the Moravian community of Friedberg, on the border of Forsyth and Davidson Counties, North Carolina.
