John Frederick Pentz, 90, of Ringgold, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at a local hospital.

John was born in 1927, in Penn Township, Pa., to the late Christopher and Elizabeth Poorman Pentz.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. John pastored for 20 years in the states of Tennessee and South Carolina. After retiring, he continued pastoral care for 11 years in the Chattanooga, North Georgia area. John enjoyed reading and also served as an engine mechanic since 1946.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Katie Elizabeth Barefield Pentz; sons, John Gregory Pentz, of Fort Oglethorpe, and Stephen Frederick Pentz, of Ringgold; daughters, Pamela Joy Jeffries, of Baden, Pa., Kim Hayes, of East Ridge, and Kristi Wiebe, of Warsaw, In.; brothers, Ronald Allen Pentz, of Grampian, Pa., and James Pentz, of Washington state; sisters, Alice Desgalie, of Leesburgh, Fl., Rozella Leber, of Newberg, Or., and Gladys Pinson, of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel, with Rev. Danny Pinter officiating.
