Brigitta Emmy Maria (Straumer) Clyde, 95, the great matriarch of the Calvin Clyde family, peacefully passed on Friday, 6 July 2018, in Logan, Utah.

Brigitta was born on 1 June 1923 in the Free City of Danzig (nka Gdansk, Poland) to Johannes F. W. and Bertha Elise (Grosnick) Straumer. She grew up in Danzig, Poland; Bamberg, Germany and Vienna, Austria.

Brigitta loved music and dance. She studied at the Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts under the great dancer, Grete Wiesenthal. After graduation, Brigitta continued her education under Rosalia Chladek at the Conservatory for Music and Dance, in Vienna.

Throughout her life, she used her talents to bless and teach others, directing and choreographing scores of community and church productions. Brigitta brought out gracefulness, beauty and musical appreciation in even the clumsiest of teenagers. She never stopped loving the grace and beauty of a dance to a Viennese waltz.

Yhough Brigitta endured the terrible trials and deprivations of World War II in Vienna, she was always able to see the beauty and joy in life. She faced challenges with strength, endurance and faith; and, despite the tragedies and difficulties, somehow managed to see life "through rose-colored glasses".

Brigitta was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 21 May 1944, in Vienna. Her faith in her Savior and knowledge of eternal life with her family never wavered, right down to her last day. She met her eternal sweetheart and love of her life, Calvin Geary Clyde, when they both attended an LDS branch there. Calvin was serving in the U.S. Army then. After his discharge and missionary service, Cal and Brigitta were married in Vienna on 24 November 1948. Not even a month later, on 15 December 1948, their marriage was sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple, by Ezra Taft Benson. She and Cal always celebrated both anniversaries.

Brigitta was dedicated to her family and exemplified motherhood. She remained dedicated to serving and helping her posterity to her final days. She knew each great-grandchild by name and remembered every one of their birth dates.

Brigitta loved to share her wisdom with everyone, whether they were family or not. Over the years, many extended family members and friends were privileged to live with Brigitta and Calvin for a time.

Brigitta faithfully served in many callings within the Church. Youth and Primary children loved her; she effectively taught both groups with love and by example. Brigitta and Calvin also served a one-year Church Service mission, from 1991-1992.

She is renowned for the legendary community exercise class she led for three days a week in the Logan Hillcrest 2nd Ward for nearly fifty years. The class continues without her to this day using a recording of her voice as its class instruction. Countless women of all ages have gained health and strength thanks to Brigitta. She was an extraordinary woman of faith, courage, service, and talent who led her family by her example of love and service. She made an indelible difference to everyone who met her.

Left to cherish her memory are Brigitta's children: Andrea (Randy) Funk, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Carla (Phil) Lewis, of Bakersfield, California; DeAnn (Brent) Spencer, of Rochester, Minnesota; Eric (Pauline) Clyde, serving in the Australia Adelaide Mission; Loretta (Doug) Buckley, of Stafford, Virginia; Mark (Susie) Clyde, of Palmer, Alaska; Rixa (Lonnie) Oman, of Mapleton; and Tania (Mark) Stewart, of Petersboro, Utah; thirty-eight grandchildren; and ninety-one great-grandchildren (plus more on the way).

In addition to her parents, Brigitta was predeceased by her husband, Cal Clyde; siblings, Hans Joachim Straummer and Erika S. Anderson; grandchildren, Dain Oman, Jenny Oman and Lance (Amy) Buckley; and great-grandchildren, Abigail Buckley, Claire Buckley and Evelyn Moyle.

Brigitta's family thanks the staff of Maple Springs and CNS Hospice for their gentle, loving care during Brigitta's final days.

Visitation will be held n the Logan Hillcrest Second Ward, 875 North 1500 East from 10 to 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, 14 July 2018, followed by Funeral services at Noon. Interment will be in the Logan Cemetery, 1000 North 1200 East.
