Vernon F. Pautz, age 93, longtime village of Mishicot resident, passed away peacefully at home Sunday afternoon, August 15, 2021, with family at his side.
Vernon was born in the town of Cooperstown on March 2, 1928 to Walter and Louise (Kitzerow) Pautz, Sr. He was a 1946 graduate of Denmark High School and shortly thereafter went on to serve his country during the end of World War II (1946 - 1949) as a member of the United States Army/Air Force. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Scheuer on June 2, 1951 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot. Kathleen preceded him in death October 18, 2003. Over the years, Vernon grew up on the family farm, owned & operated a Standard Oil Business in Two Rivers, worked as a car salesman with his best friend Les Mach, was a Prudential Insurance Agent for 20 years, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years as a rural mail carrier. Vernon had been a member of the Mishicot Lions for 53 years dedicating many years of service to the cause of helping others. He had twice served as a regional wide District Governor, the first 1982-1983 and again 2007-2008. Throughout his career with the Lions he served on numerous district cabinet level posts and also as chairs for Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF), Leo, Quest and International Relations and District Convention chair. Within his local Mishicot Lions Club, he served as President, Director, Membership Chair and LCIF representative. Throughout his years, he had been awarded prestigious designations such as Melvin Jones Fellowship, Birch Sturm Fellowship, Knight of Sight Award and International Leadership Award. He was responsible for sponsoring numerous Mishicot Lions members over many years and was very involved with the Leader Dog Program, as well as Wisconsin Lions Foundation Camp. Vernon served several terms as the Village of Mishicot President; served on the Mishicot School Board including terms as President; and was past recipient of MAGIC's Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a lifetime Green Bay Packer Fan & longtime season ticket holder; he enjoyed many years of hunting with friends and family; and especially cherished the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vernon is survived by six children: David (Diane) Pautz of Franklin, Steven (Nancy) Pautz of Mukwonago, Patricia Pautz of Stevens Point, Susan Pautz, Pamela (Mark) Rabas, and Paul Pautz, all of Mishicot; seven grandchildren: Bruce (Brenda) Pautz, William Pautz, Amanda Pautz, Robert (Eliza) Pautz, Carolyn Pautz, Samuel Pautz, and Andrew Pautz; and 12 great-grandchildren: Tyler, Maura, Jamesen, Alexia, Reese, Cole, Trent, Alleigh, Michael, Charlotte and Anna Leigh. He is further survived by one brother, Walter Pautz, Jr. of Manitowoc; sister-in-laws: Renate Pautz of Germany, Joan Brouchoud of Two Rivers, Darlene (Dolly) Scheuer of Mishicot, and Mary Scheuer of Manitowoc; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr. and Louise Pautz; his wife, Kathleen Pautz; one grandson, Steven M. Pautz; daughter-in-law, Diane Pautz; one brother, Reuben Pautz; and many brother & sister-in-laws: Janice Pautz, Maxine (Ed) Juckem, Frank Scheuer, John Scheuer, Jeanette (Albert) Hansen, Patrick Scheuer, Michael Scheuer, and Lloyd Brouchoud.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels, 1506 18th Street, Two Rivers Friday morning, August 27th from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation.
A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels. A nephew, Deacon David Scheuer will officiate the service, with burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Mishicot. Military graveside rites will be accorded by members of the Kempen-Staudinger-Terrens VFW Post #7753 of Mishicot.
