John was the son of James and Alace (Hunter) Edwards and grandson of American Revolutionary patriot, Pvt. John Edwards (DAR ancestor #A036668),and wife Susannah (Collins) Edwards.

After John's death Mary and the children moved to Fairfield to her farm which had a gin that was run for her by James T. Lott. On 26 Aug 1869 Mary E. Edwards married James T. Lott in Fairfield.
Mary & James T. Lott had two sons, William Loyd Lott born 1 Jan 1872 and died 11 July 1941 Freestone Co and James T "Jim" Lott born 7 Feb 1874 and died 19 Dec 1890 Freestone Co.
