FREDERICK HENRY WALTON, JR.

On Saturday, August 3, 2013 at his residence in Maplewood Park Place. Born March 25, 1917 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to native Chicagoans, Mr. Walton graduated from Staunton Military Academy in 1938 and served in the Army Air Force HQ during WWII, retiring as a Colonel in the USAF Reserve. Fred graduated from Georgetown University College and Law School and had a 41-year career in private practice as a communications attorney, serving in several capacities in the Federal Communications Bar Association. In his retirement, Mr. Walton served as President of Community Ministry of Montgomery County and as Director of the Interfaith Housing Coalition. For over fifty years he was an active member St. John's Norwood Parish, including services as vestry member, warden and chair of several committees.
His wife of 61 years, Barbara Ramseyer, died in 2003. He is the father of Timothy, Frederick and the late Valerie Walton; grandfather of Thomas and Emily Walton; and great-grandfather of Halle Rose Walton. Friends will be received at PUMPHREY'S BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE FUNERAL HOME, 7557 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. John's Norwood Parish, 6701 Wisconsin Avenue, Chevy Chase, Maryland on Thursday, August 8 at 10 a.m. Interment private. Memorial contributions may be made in Frederick Walton's name to the Interfaith Housing Coalition.

Frederick H. Walton Jr., a communications lawyer who served for three decades in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve, died Aug. 3 at the Maplewood Park Place retirement community in Bethesda. He was 96.

The cause was myelodysplastic syndrome, said his son Timothy Walton.

Mr. Walton practiced law with the firm of Dempsey and Koplovitz for 41 years and was a board member and past chairman of the Federal Communications Bar Association, according to his family.

Frederick Henry Walton Jr. was born in Buenos Aires, where his American family had a meatpacking business. He graduated from Staunton Military Academy in Virginia in 1933 and received a law degree from Georgetown University in 1938.

He served in the Army Air Forces and then the Air Force before joining the Air Force Reserve, from which he retired as a colonel.

He lived in the Washington area for 79 years, with residences in the District, Alexandria, Chevy Chase and Bethesda.

His wife of 61 years,Barbara Ramseyer Walton, died in 2003. Their daughter, Valerie Walton, died in 1968. Survivors include two sons, Timothy Walton of Rockville and Frederick Walton of Portland, Ore.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
