Catherine (Kay) Ann Jensen (Pietroske), 69, of Two Rivers, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 16, 2018 at her home.
Kay was born May 21, 1949 in Manitowoc County, daughter of the late Anton Sr. and Stella (Dawidowich) Pietroske. She attended Washington High School with the class of 1967 and worked a variety of careers including spending many years working for Hamilton’s, Mirro and Foley where she also acted as union steward, before settling on a healthcare profession prior to retiring due to disability.
An adventurous spirit, her early years were filled with whimsical antics and a hunger for adventure. She trekked throughout many states, sometimes selling blood to fund the youthful journey, before settling back in Two Rivers where her escapades continued. While working for her brother’s full-service gas station she persuaded the late actor Charlton Heston to buy her a drink at a nearby tavern and many years later had a run-in with late pro wrestler Wahoo McDaniel whose unwanted advances gave her one more story to tell.
Her most recent journeys were unwanted and yet her most notable. In 2017, months after her youngest son David was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Kay lost her right leg. Rather than surrendering to disability she vowed to fully rehabilitate so she could continue to help her son. One of her proudest moments occurred months later when she was able to walk into her niece’s wedding and shared a dance with the groom.
She was a woman of extremes; capable of displaying passionate levels of disagreement and inspiring levels of love, compassion and determination. She was adored by her children and grandchildren and treasured by her husband and close friends.
Kay enjoyed social gatherings to such an extent that she often outstayed most guests and had to hunt for rides home. Her passion to live life to the fullest was felt by everyone around her and she was always known as the life of the party. All too often unacknowledged for it, she was the rock within her family who ensured everyone was looked after and that they would continue taking care of each other. She thrived on helping others just to see them smile. Kay truly left footprints on many hearts.
Survivors include her husband: Allen; two children: Tina Brouchoud (Joel Hastreiter) and Cory Jensen of Two Rivers; one grandchild: Cody Brouchoud of Two Rivers; three great-grandchildren: Cayden, Khloe and Andy. She is further survived by her brothers and sisters: Anton Pietroske, Jr., Frank (Kathy) Pietroske, all of Two Rivers, Robert Pietroske of Manitowoc, Joe Pietroske (Sharon Pritzl) of Beecher, and Nancy Pietroske of Two Rivers; step-children: Brenda (James) Zamores, Annette (Timothy) Schisel, Theresa (Eric) Walsdorf and Bridget Jensen. Along with many other step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Kay also leaves behind her beloved dogs: Bailey and Pebbles. Special friends: Rosie Counard, Janice Waniger, and Marlea Resop.
She was preceded in death by her son: David Jensen; her parents: Anton Sr. and Stella Pietroske; an infant brother: Arthur; an infant sister: Violet; a sister: AnnaMae Schmidtman; parent-in-laws: Roy and Grace Jensen; two sister-in-law’s: Donna Pietroske and Elizabeth (Liz) Pietroske; brother-in-law: Norman Schmidtman; step-granddaughter: Hannah; step-grandson: Nam; niece: Lisa Marie Pietroske; three nephews: Scott Gamble, James Gamble and Dillon Mueller; her pets: Rufus and Laci Lou and many other aunts, uncles and family members.
