Cousin Tom Bodine suggested that several family graves may have ended up in the Tallapoosa river. William Henry Pesnell was born in Hall county, Georgia about 1803. He married Elizabeth Dowdy, daughter of Robert Dowdy and Catherine Whitmire. He and Elizabeth had three sons and five daughters. He had a lumber mill that he operated with his son John Robert Pesnell around Bell's Mill. He also was a justice of the peace in Alabama. He outlived his eldest son by two years, the son was murdered on his way to court to testify in a lawsuit against the business.
