Attended Marion H.S. Marion, Iowa where he was a stand-out in academics, track & field and baseball. Was the first Africa- American to graduate from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. After graduation worked eight years for Booker T. Washington as his private secretary at the Tuskegee Institute. Left to study medicine at University of Illinois. Served with U.S. Health Dept. before going into private practice as a physician and surgeon. Was shot and killed in a robbery at his office in Chicago in 1946.
