US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served the State of New York's 17th (1981-1983) and 14th (1983-1990) Congressional Districts in the United States House of Representatives. Born to Italian immigrants, his father served with the New York State Assembly. After attaining his law degree from Wagner College, he served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Following his return home, he commenced practicing Law in Staten Island, prior to initiating his political career as a New York State assemblyman in 1974. During his tenure in Congress, he displayed Conservative tendencies as he opposed abortions, supported President Reagan's tax cuts and voted against a national holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr. Additionally, he fought to reduce funding for social welfare programs. He had the distinction of being succeeded in Congress by his daughter Susan Molinari. After leaving Washington, he served as borough president of Staten Island. He died from pneumonia.
