Mark was born in Papua New Guinea to missionaries Ray and Arlene (Bute) Conlon on December 19, 1958.
They moved back to the Spokane, Washington area when he was 5, then moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 7, where he attended local schools. When he was 14 they moved to Beresford, SD and he attended Beresford High School.
Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force in 1976 and served until 1994. Mark considered his greatest accomplishment to be able to serve his country. He expressed his desire to go back into the service even after he contracted cancer for the first time.
Mark had 3 sons, Mark Jr. and Corey of Tucson, AZ, and Christopher of Sioux City. Finding true love late in life he married Pat L. Berger of Dakota City, NE on August 22, 2004 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
He contributed his vast memory of songs from the 1970's and 1980's to his Air Force career and his mother, Arlene. His friends found him to be gentle and tenderhearted. He loved to talk about military, music, and old cars. His favorite being a 1970 gold Camero. Mark was selected to fly on the September 25, 2018 Honor Flight for heroes that served their country. He will be missed by many.
Mark R. Conlon, Sr. went to meet his Savior on Sunday, July 22, 2018 while at his residence.
His survivors include his wife of 14 years, Pat; his 3 sons, Mark Jr., Corey and Christopher; two granddaughters, Isabelle and Monica; two grandsons, Silas and Elias: and his favorite aunt, Betty Bocock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Arlene of Beresford; and his favorite uncle, Darrell Bute of Jackson, MN.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on August 21, 2018 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City, IA with Rev. Kenny Hsu officiating. Burial will be in Dakota City Cemetery in Dakota City, NE. Visitation with the family present will begin at 6:00 P.M., with a Celebration of Life service at 7:00 P.M. on August 20, 2018 at Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE.
