Dr. Joseph Deweese Stevens was a son of Thomas Jefferson Stevens and Nancy Deweese Dean Stevens. He had eight full younger siblings and nine older half-siblings from his father's first marriage to Olive Crandall Stevens.


Dr. Joseph Deweese Stevens married first to Margaret Ann Johnston on March 20, 1855 in Corydon, Harrison, Indiana. They had eight children.


Dr. Joseph Deweese Stevens married second to Mary "Molly" Davis Jackson on January 18, 1879 in Peru, Chautauqua, Kansas. They had no children.


Dr. Joseph Deweese Stevens was 76 years, 7 months and 24 days old at the time of his death.
