Gardner was born in Port Byron NY, son of William Allis and Amy Jeffers/Jeffries and married first in 1867 Sarah E. Hopkins of Albion NY, who died Oct 8, 1869, then he married Helen M. Bacon of Clinton, CT in 1873, who died in Rochester NY Aug 13, 1903. He then married Mary L. Dransfield Dec 31, 1904. He had 3 sisters, Jane Zelinda b. Oct 14, 1840 married Columbus Coleman of Muskegon, Mich., Emma Zulette, b. March 30, 1849 died unmarried Sept 3, 1869 and Mary Luella b. May 17, 1853 d. July 21, 1854.
