Sandra K. Alford, R.N., 60, of Connersville went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis after suddenly falling ill.

One of four children of Chester Aaron and Frieda Lossee Larson, Sandra was born in Michigan on January 17, 1958. She was raised in South Whitley, Indiana and graduated from South Whitley High School where she played in the band and was a cheerleader.

Sandra studied to become a paramedic and worked at Huntington Memorial Hospital. Later, she worked as a paramedic at Marion General Hospital in Marion, Indiana. While in Marion, she met and married her husband, John. They were married in Ringold, Georgia on July 28, 1984, and had their marriage blessed on June 21, 1986, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Marion.

While still working at Marion General Hospital, Sandra completed classes for her certificate in Nursing. Two years later, she graduated from Indiana University Fort Wayne with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. For many years, she worked in ICU and then became Assistant Director of Nursing for the Medical/Surgical department.

With her family, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2000 where she worked in the Emergency Department at Desert Springs Hospital. She then took on a position for University Medical Center at the Rancho Walk-In Clinic.

In 2005, Sandra and her husband moved to Connersville. She worked for Reid Health in Richmond for several years before she started working at St. Vincent Hospital, Anderson where she was the nighttime House Charge Nurse. She took on the position of as Night House Supervisor and then as QC Manager at Fayette Regional Health System, where she was working at the time of her death.

Besides her husband of 34 years, John Alford, survivors include her son, Austin Ackerman of Connersville; daughter, Elizabeth (Rob) Molloy of Connersville; stepsons, William Alford of Las Vegas and Gary (Debi) Stephens of Muncie, Indiana; a brother, Calvin (Mickie) Larson of Cassville, Missouri; sisters, Sharon (Preston) Bolinger of South Whitley, Indiana and Linda (Jerry) Prater of Tennessee. Additional survivors include her granddaughters, Mellissa Ackerman and Ellissa Ackerman whom Sandra and her husband are helping to raise, Emma Ackerman, and precious twin granddaughters, Addie and Annie Molloy; and two step-grandsons, Aaron and Caleb Stephens.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Dustin Boehm at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Connersville. Burial will follow in Dale Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August, 6, 2018 at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home. Friends may also visit from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
