While in Windham, she met John Robert Bishop, a young serviceman. The two were married and when John was discharged from the Navy, they settled in Windham to raise their children.
When her children started in school, she went to school with them, serving as the school cook. She also worked at several of the area convenience stores.
She and her husband both served on the Civil Defense and ran the area shelters during the 1998 ice storm. She volunteered for the police department, and in that capacity chaperoned many of the high school dances. She was a 50-year member of the Rebekah's and enjoyed bowling, belonging to many leagues. A highlight in her life was the many friends she made at Unity Garden, with whom she loved playing cards.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years, John Bishop Sr.; and her daughter, Theresa Bishop.
She is survived by her children, John Robert Bishop Jr. of Florida; Bruce Bishop and his wife, Maureen, of Windham; Mary Bishop of Norway; and Joseph Bishop and his companion, Nancy Nelson, of Windham; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Erskine, of Bangor; and her sister-in-law, Mildred Cole, of South Portland, both of whom she talked to every day.
There will be a graveside service for Catherine in the spring at Smith Cemetery in Windham. Arrangements are under the care of the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee. To view Catherine's tribute page and to sign her online guest book, please visit: www.dolbyblaissegee.com.
