Sloan Jackson "Jack" Black was born to Kirby Elton and Juanita (Fortenberry) Black.
Jack grew up at Temple, Okla., and Fort Stockton, Texas, graduating from Temple High School with the Class of 1948. He married Ramona LeeEtta Wills on Dec. 23, 1950, at Temple and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage. He entered the United States Air Force on Jan. 1, 1951, and served his country honorably during the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he attended the University of Oklahoma, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Jack began a long career in oil and gas as a petroleum engineer with Humble Oil. He developed petroleum engineering courses, teaching them in the U.S. and overseas, including cities such as England, Germany, Norway, Indonesia, Nigeria and Angola. He also worked a couple of years with FEMA in Denton, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Engineering Society and a member of the Singing Oaks Church of Christ in Denton. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and story-telling.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Kirby and Juanita.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona, of the home; three sons: David , Steven, and Spence (Gwen); his sister, Martha Ray Knox
(Joe) of Decatur, Texas; six grandchildren: Cory, Casey, Shea, Nathan, Bailey and Joe; three great-grandchildren: Delaney, Georgia and Neveah; and many other relatives and friends.
