He was born at Anita. Iowa. Oct. 12. 1893 to Cyrus Jacoby Lattig and Mary Emily Fuller Lattig. He grew up In Iowa and played minor league baseball In the Midwest. Survivors Include his wife. a son. Dr. Jerry Lattig, Portland; a daughter, Mrs. Philip (Joyce) Schnabel. Eugene, OR; two brothers Guy Lattig, Boise, and Dana Lattig, Macksburg, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. H. H. (Millie) Crandall. San Clemente, California; and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded In death by three brothers."

I remember Joyce's Father as being quiet, kind, patient, & hard-working man. He kept excellent care of his family, home, & grocery store. He had a ready & friendly smile, & had many friends. He was generous.

In the days when Joyce & I became engaged, it was customary for the prospective groom to formally ask the Father for his Daughter's hand in marriage. I made a special trip from Lewiston to Payette for that purpose.

That evening, Nell, Arthur, Joyce & I gathered around the Dining Room table for a delicious steak dinner. After dinner, we moved to the Living Room for more casual conversation. Finally, I got up enough nerve to ask for Joyce's hand. Fortunately for all of us, her Father said, "YES!". I'd never been so happy - & relieved.

They youngsters enjoyed the big cake, and played marbles to beat the band. (Gerry would have been about 4 months old).
