Mattie Kingsbury was the daughter of William and Fanny Spring Kingsbury of Chester, Vermont. She married Henry W Spafford 5 Oct 1864 in Bennington where he was station master for the railroad. Mattie died at the age of 36, leaving Henry with four children, all under 10 years of age: Eva Minerva, Alton William, Martha Elizabeth, and Henrietta Winnifred.
