Acclaimed Jazz Musician. He played with the Miles Davis Quintet from 1955 until 1963, during which time he played on virtually all of the classic Davis recordings including the legendary “Kind of Blue” sessions. He worked with the Wynton Kelly trio from 1963 until 1966. He also recorded with artists such as Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderly, Donald Byrd, Bud Powell and Freddie Hubbard. He is remembered as one of the first jazz bassists to take bowed solos that exuded artistry with a definitive sense of swing.
