Gary Brendan Tierney, 51, of Berlin, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with kidney cancer on Friday, August 10, 2018 surrounded by his loving wife and family.

He was born in Hartford, CT on February 6, 1967 to Philip P. and Debbie Tierney and graduated from Newington High School and Central CT State University.

Gary was part owner and National Sales Manager of his family's business, Joy Accessories and was a member of the New England Apparel Club (NEAC). In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling and vacationing. He was fiercely loyal to his family and friends. All who knew him were blessed by his kind heart, generous spirit and love for life. His infectious personality drew people to him. Gary left an indelible mark on all those who crossed his path. Most of all, his daughter Sophia was his heart. There was not anything he would not do for her. It is in her that his spirit will live on.

In addition to his parents, Gary is survived by his wife, Nicole (Lentocha) Tierney; his daughter, Sophia Tierney; his brother, Scott Tierney and wife Catherine of New Britain and their children: Lauren, Brendan and Ryan; his sister, Joy Nenna and husband Robert, Jr. and their children: Abby and Jack as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, parents-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews with whom he was very close to.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, CT. Gary's funeral service will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, August 17 from Newington Memorial followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington. He will be laid to rest in the mausoleum at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. The family would like to sincerely thank all of Gary's dedicated doctors, nurses and support staff of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and of St. Francis Medical Center.
