America married Josiah Cochran January 21, 1858 in Jasper County, IL.

He was killed at Haynes Bluff, Mississippi in the Civil War June 16, 1863 and is buried in the National Cemetery at Vicksburg.

America died in the home of John Sparks but there is no record of her burial site. Those who have researched agree that most likely she is in Tate Cemetery between her son, James Cochran, and Nathan Sparks (who was the second husband of Anna Cochran.)
