Michael D. "Smitty" Smith, 71 years of age, died Monday August 20, 2018. He was born October 11, 1946 in Hodgenville, Kentucky to the late Hallie and Thelma (Gentry) Smith and was a retired mail handler with the U.S. Postal Service in Louisville, Kentucky. Michael was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Viet Nam War. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his family and friends, He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Gay Smith Jared.
Survivors include wife of 37 years Cathy (Oates) Smith; sons David Smith (Tabatha) and Aaron Smith (Jessica); four grandchildren Sydney, Erika, Matt, and A.J; two brothers Joe Smith (Kay) and Alan Smith (Rita); mother-in-law Eunice Oates; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday August 25, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road. His funeral service with Full Military Honors will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday August 25, in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel. Private burial in New Albany National Cemetery.
