John Brinster was born on July 12, 1918, on a farm southeast of Balta, ND to Joseph and Margaret (Yohner) Brinster. He attended rural school in Rosedale Township in Pierce County, ND. John attended high school and graduated from Balta High School in 1938.
On October 20, 1941, John was united in marriage to Margaret Schwan at the Fulda Catholic Church, Fulda, ND. John and Margaret owned and operated a grocery store in Balta. In 1945 John went to work for National Tea Food Company as a Relief Manager and Store Manager in Devils Lake. In 1950 he managed the National Tea Food store in Grafton, ND. In 1955 he went to work for Gift House Stamp Company as District Field Manager and Representative. In 1972, John went to work for National Guardian Life Insurance Company in Bismarck as a Sales Representative and Broker and remained there until his retirement in 1998. John and Margaret returned to Devils Lake in 2005. Margaret passed away on December 12, 2006.
John is survived by his two daughters Mary Lou (Cleatus) Tandeski of Devils Lake and Marjorie (Walt) Hoff of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sons Joseph (Sherry) Brinster of Linville, North Carolina and Jerome (Betty) Brinster of Omaha, Nebraska; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his wife Margaret; parents Joseph and Margaret; granddaughter Joy Allison Brinster; daughter-in-law Patricia Brinster; step-father Ignatz Schneider; brother Michael Brinster; half-brothers Leo Schneider and Ned Schneider; half-sister Cecelia Bartsch and step-brother Ben Schneider.
