With the death of John J. Lortz, which occurred Sunday at his home at South Mound, is recorded the passing of another early settler of Labette county.
Mr. Lortz was born in Bellville, Ohio, January 23, 1860, and with his parents moved to Parsons ten years later. They settled seven miles northeast of Parsons. In 1885, he was married to Addie Hoover of this city. Since then, they have resided on a farm in the vicinity of Parsons.
Mr. Lortz was a member of the Lutheran church and was affiliated with the M. W. A. at South Mound. The body will lie in state at the family home in South Mound until the funeral, which will be in the First Methodist Episcopal church at Parsons, 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. P. Wharton, pastor of the church, in charge of services. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.
Besides his wife, Mr. Lortz is survived by two sons, George M. Lortz of Kansas City, and John E. Lortz of South Mound, three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Young, Mrs. Mary Galyen and Mrs. Anna Hall, all of Parsons, and four brothers, George P. Lortz and Edward Lortz of Parsons, Peter Lortz of Oklahoma City, and William Lortz of Oreville, Illinois.
