Dorman was the son of Benjamin Felts and Nancy Betts. He married Eliza Ball Dewey. Dorman and Eliza originally settled in Bunkerhill Twp., MI. It was from here that Dorman represented Ingham County in the state legislature. The area where he lived, Felt Plains, in Bunkerhill Township was named after him. The name still exists in the names Felt Plains Cemetery and Felt Plains United Methodist Church.
