William T. "Billy" Tipton, age 78, formerly of Roan Mountain, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 23, 2007 at Roan Highlands Nursing Center, Roan Mountain, following an extended illness. A native of Unicoi County, he had lived in Carter County since 1941. He was a son of the late Bill and Grace Winters Britt and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. Mr. Tipton was a retired employee of Click's Construction Company and enjoyed working at flea markets. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, James Calvin Tipton.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years of marriage, Alpha Hilmon Tipton, Roan Mountain, daughter and son-in-law, Mary and James Taylor, Elizabethton, a niece, Cindy and husband, James McConnell, Apex, NC, a nephew, James N. Tipton, Wilmington, NC, several step-grandchildren, several step-great grandchildren and several cousins also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Raymond Davis and Rev. James Hill officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007 in Hilmon Cemetery, Roan Mountain.
