JOHN BARLOW, CITY DRUGGIST KILLED BY CAR
Victim Watching Fire As Auto Hits Him
HUGO ROAD IS SCENE Barber Supply Firm Owner Is Dead

John H. Barlow, founder and president of the Barlow Chemical association 615 North Broadway, a barber supplies firm, was killed almost instantly about 7:30 p. m. Wednesday when he was struck by an automobile on US highway 70, five miles west of Hugo.

Barlow was standing on the road watching a fire to the north when a car driven by Claude Milton Durham of Antlers knocked the veteran druggist into his own car, then ran over him as Barlow fell to the pavement.

With Barlow were his wife Mrs Essie Barlow, 39 years old, and Mrs Barlow's father, W. J. Ray, who were not injured.

Durham told officers that he had not seen the druggist on the road because of the thick smoke from the fire. The Barlow car, officers said had been parked halfway on the pavement.

The Barlows and Mrs. Barlow's father were en route to Texas on a hunting trip. Friends of the couple here said that Barlow had planned a week's hunting trip while his wife was to take her father into Texas to visit some friends there.

Barlow lived at 117 Northeast Fifteenth street. A registered druggist for many years, he formed his chemical firm more than 10 years ago for the manufacture of "eczematone" products which won a national distribution. With him in the firm were his sons, Robert W. Barlow, 2240 Northwest Thirty-third street, vice - president, and John T. Barlow jr., 1608 Northeast Nineteenth street, secretary and treasurer. The druggist's first wife died several years ago, and Mrs. Essie Barlow is his second wife. He is also survived by a stepson, James Ray Barlow, also of 117 Northeast Fifteenth street, and by a sister in Kansas and two grandchildren. Ray lives in Shawnee, but has stayed here some time with his daughter. Neither Ray nor Mrs. Barlow Wednesday night could relate a coherent account of the accident, officers said. Barlow was a member of the Immanuel Baptist church.
