CAMPBELL, SAMUEL BROOKEN, formerly of Birmingham, passed away on November 5, 2010 after a brief illness. He was born July 25, 1921 in Campbellsville, Kentucky - a town founded in the early 1800s by his family. He loved to tell stories of the five Campbell brothers who resettled from Virginia to Kentucky, and their descendants, many of whom still reside in the Campbellsville area. Brooken was a proud alumnus and supporter of Campbellsville University, and also received degrees from Western Kentucky University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. He loved the old standards and was fond of humming and whistling hymns as he went about his daily tasks. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family on camping excursions. Ordained at 18, Rev. Campbell ministered to Baptist congregations in Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio and Alabama for over 60 years. He pastored First Baptist Church, Chalkville, from 1961-1970. Brooken was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Samuel and Alvia Crawley Campbell, and his sister, Leota. He is survived by his wife, Jean; three children, Daniel (Becky), Gary (Margaret), and Gale (James) McManus, all of Birmingham; six grandchildren, Jessica Campbell (Steve Reed) of Chicago, Carrie Campbell, Sarah Campbell, Chris Campbell, Kristen McManus and Andrew McManus of Birmingham; and two great-grandchildren, Zella Campbell Reed and Bennett Brooken Reed of Chicago. Visitation will be held Monday, November 8 at 1:00p.m. at Memory Chapel with Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Hill Gardens. Memory Chapel Funeral
