Daughter of Amelia Duvall and John Cook. She married Austin Smith about 1884 and they had ten known children, eight of whom were living in the 1910 census.

Her obituary in the Greensboro Daily News, dated July 15, 1945, provides that she died at her home in Nashville where she had resided for the last six years.

Surviving were two daughters, Mrs. Alva Taylor and Mrs. Dick Reynolds, Nashville; four sons, D.G. Smith, Seattle, Wash., R.S. Smith, Charlotte, O.C. Smith, Stuart, Fla., and F.D. Smith, Greensboro; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
