Below is some genealogical research that I found-
"George Henry Porter" was five years old at the time of the 1901 Census. He was living with his parents William and Elizabeth, who were 42 and 43 respectively at that time. Gertrude (19), Edith (17), and Elsie (8) were also recorded in the entry. There is no mention of brother William. (Away on a visit? Left home?) William (father) seems to have been a millwright by trade at this time. Gertrude was a "cloth mender" and Edith, a tailoress. Their parish was Holy Trinity. Their civil parish was Bradford on Avon.
If we go back to 1881, George's father William is 22 years old. He was born "abt 1859" in Goxhill, Lincolnshire, England. He is already married to Elizabeth (who seems to have been born at Borrow on Humber) and they live at 14 Pilewell (Road? Street?). He was then an Engineer Fitter by trade. Elizabeth was a woollen weaver. With them lived their son William, who was one year old. This gives William junior a birthdate of abt 1880, so he must have been about two years older than Gertrude.
In 1911, George Henry Porter was 15. He was living at 105 Trowbridge Road, Bradford On Avon, Wilts. with William and Elizabeth (52 and 53) and Elsie (listed as Elsie Rose Porter) who was 18. William was a mill engineer (chief) in the rubber manufacturing industry. He and Elizabeth had been married for 33 years. According to the record they had had six children born alive but one had died. Elsie Rose was a student teacher. George's birthplace is given as Bradford on Avon.
Also in 1911, there's a census result for "Wm Hy Terry Porter"who is 52 years old. He was living with his wife, Elizabeth. Also present was William junior, who was 25, and Lavinia Graham, who was 58. She was a boarder.
The names and ages of William/Wm Hy, Elizabeth and William the son match, as do the birthplaces given for William the father. However, William snr is now listed as a Goods Clerk and the younger William as a Draper's Assistant (or possibly Broker's Assistant). It says William and Elizabeth have been married for 31 years and are both 52 years old. William jr is single. However, it goes on to say Total children Born Alive (2), Children still living (2) and Children who have died (0). Therefore, I'm pretty sure this is just a chance resemblance.

George Henry Porter was active in the Freemasons. Here is a summary of some information provided by the Librarian at the Freemasons' Hall, United Grand Lodge of England:
George was 18th Degree or Rose Croix in the Ancient and Accepted Rite (or the Scottish Rite in the United States and the rest of the world). George was also a Life Governor of the Royal Masonic Hospital In Ravenscourt Park, West London. The hospital was a former charity hospital founded by the United Grand Lodge of England during the First World War (no longer in existence). George was a member of the Cloisters Lodge No. 7100. George was the Lodge's Master (Worshipful Master) for several years. As the Lodge was only founded in 1951, it is likely that George was one of the founders of the lodge and would have started his freemasonry in a different lodge.
